Ingredients
Ingredients
- 2 ½-3 lbs. petite sirloin, thinly sliced
- 8 hoagie rolls
- 7 oz. provolone cheese, sliced
- 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 2-4 tbsp. vegetable oil
- 6 tbsp. butter, softened
- 1 ½ tsp. all-purpose seasoning
- 1 tsp. garlic pepper
- *2 ½ tsp. Philly cheesesteak seasoning of your choice, instead of those suggested, if preferred
Preparation
- Place your petite sirloin in the freezer for 20-30 minutes before thinly slicing to make preparing this steak sandwich recipe easier.
- Remove the firm-but-not-frozen sirloin from the freezer, trimming fat off the edges using a sharp knife.
- Post fat removal, slice your sirloin as thin as possible with the knife running across the grain.
- Chop the sirloin slices into ¼-inch pieces.
- Also, thinly slice your yellow onion and green and red bell peppers beforehand to avoid holding up the griddling process.
- Cut open your hoagie rolls, but take care not to separate them. Spread with butter and set aside for later.
Cooking Instructions
-
1
Add vegetable oil to your flat-top griddle and turn to medium-low heat.
-
2
Once at temperature, add the onion and bell peppers, griddling until tender. Turn the veggies occasionally, and if they begin to brown, lower the heat.
-
3
Depending on your griddle size, make room for the chopped sirloin by transferring the tender veggies into a dish and setting it aside for now.
-
4
Add more oil to your griddle if needed and, again, depending on size, place all or half of your sirloin onto the surface over medium-high heat.
-
5
Use all-purpose seasoning and garlic pepper on the meat or your favorite Philly cheesesteak seasoning.
-
6
Griddle for 4-5 minutes until no pink meat remains.
-
7
If necessary, free up griddle space for the hoagie rolls by adding the sirloin to the dish with the veggies.
-
8
Place your hoagies buttered-side down on the griddle, checking the bottoms frequently to prevent too much browning and the rolls becoming hard.
-
9
Remove the rolls once golden and toasted, and set aside.
-
10
Scoop the chopped sirloin and veggie mix back onto the griddle and top with sliced provolone cheese.
-
11
Put down the lid or place a melting dome over the ingredients. Open after 4-5 minutes. The provolone should be completely melted.
-
12
Complete the steak sandwich recipe by loading the mixture onto your toasted hoagie rolls. Serve fresh, and enjoy!
